Amidst the massive crowd, Garbine Muguruza outlasted Barbora Krejcikova in the gruelling three sets(2-6,6-3,6-4) at WTA Finals 2021. After a set down win over the Czech, Spaniard revealed how she was self-motivated during a neck and neck encounter.
“I tell myself I’m in Mexico. I love it here. This is the final push. I’m going to give everything I have left in every single match,” Garbine Muguruza said in the post-match interview.
“No matter if it’s ugly the score or whatever. I always have a chance because I’ve played all of them, I’ve beaten some, lost some,” she added.
Former World No.1 also emphasised, “It’s really very open. You never feel like you don’t have a chance right now. So that’s where I get my fuel. I’m very excited to keep my options alive.”
When asked about the match, Muguruza explained, “I think I started the first set not playing great. In the second set, the crowd really helped me ”
“I said before and I really mean it, because they cheer me up. I realized that, hey, I’m not leaving this court without changing things around at least or giving Barbora the biggest fight,” the two-time Grand Slam champion confessed.
To confirm a semifinal spot at Guadalajara, Muguruza faces Anett Kontaveit in the last round-robin match.
