Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov reached the quarterfinal for the fourth time(2013, 2015, 2018 and 2022) at Monte-Carlo Masters. In ongoing Monaco’s ATP1000 event, the 2017 ATP Finals title winner stunned No.4 seed, Casper Ruud, in straight sets(6-3, 7-5) in the Round of 16.
“I was really looking forward to the match. I knew if I did the right things, good things would come out of it,” Dimitrov said in the post-match on-court interview on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea.
The 30-year-old from Haskovo also didn’t forget to praise his Norwegian opponent, “Casper is such a great player on whatever surface. He has proved it over and over again at such a young age, which is nice to see. I liked that matchup and wanted to see where I was physically and mentally. I just played and enjoyed the game.”
Speaking about court transition, Dimitrov explained, “It is always tough this week because you are switching surfaces. So I try not to be too tough on myself in practice. I just try to do simple things. It is going so well so far.”
In Monte-Carlo’s next encounter, the former World No.3 Dimitrov will face Hubert Hurkacz or Albert Ramos-Vinolas for a semifinal spot.
