Following a year of hiatus, the former World No.1 Venus Williams will make her singles come back at the National Bank open 2022. The WTA1000 category event will be held from 8th to 14th August this year on the outdoor hard courts in Toronto, Canada.
The five-time Wimbledon champion has not competed in the WTA singles event since August 2019. Most recently, the 42-year-old American played in the mixed doubles event with Jamie Murray of Great Britain at SW19 earlier this month.

Venus Williams has been awarded a main draw wildcard in the singles event at the National Bank Open 2022. Moreover, the seven-time Grand Slam champion will play in Toronto for the first time since 2019.
“I’m so excited to be back playing the National Bank Open presented by Rogers. I love the city, the tournament, and I look forward to being back in Toronto”, Venus Williams said.
Most notably, Venus Williams has now joined Serena Williams in Toronto. The 23-time Grand Slam champion recently made her appearance on the WTA Tour at Wimbledon.
“We are thrilled to have both Venus and Serena playing the National Bank Open presented by Rogers this year,” said Karl Hale, 2022 Toronto WTA1000 Tournament Director.
Furthermore, he added, “They have meant a great deal to our sport and having them at a tournament really puts a spark in everyone from the fans, tournament staff, and even the other players. They’re two of the greatest players in history and we look forward to hosting them in Toronto.”
