Tokyo Olympic Gold Medalist Belinda Bencic captured her sixth WTA career title on the Green clay at the Charleston Open 2022. In the highly anticipated championship match, the 25-year-old Swiss defeated Tunisian Ons Jabeur in the three sets(6-1, 5-7, 6-4).
To claim the first title on the clay surface, the former World No.4 fought against the current World No.10 for 2-hour and 35-minute in South Carolina. Bencic also hit an ace and won 71% of first-serve points in her first clay-court final.
“I think we deserved to have two winners. It means so much to me today because it was the biggest tournament for me when I played the semis in 2014, so it’s extra special to finally win here. You, people, are amazing, thank you,” Belinda Bencic said in the post-match interview in Charleston.

Moreover, Belinda Bencic also became the first Swiss woman to win the
Charleston Open title since Martina Hingis lifted the trophy in 1999.
