In the BJK Cup qualifiers schedule, Romania will face Poland from 15th April to 16th April 2022 in Radom, Poland. Meanwhile, the two of four Romanian team nominees’ names changed on the board within a couple of days.
Former World No.1 Simona Halep, Sorana Cirstea, Irina Bara and Jaqueline Cristian’s names are already not listed in the Romanian BJK Cup Team. Most recently, World No.56 and Romanian No.3 Elena Gabriela Ruse withdrew from the upcoming event in Poland due to physical fitness concerns.
At this time, the experienced tennis player and one of the nominees of the Romania BJK Cup Team Monica Niculescu tested positive for COVID-19. And the 34-year-old was isolated from the rest of the team members in Poland.
Most notably, Niculescu has been representing her nation in the Billie Jean King Cup since 2004. She has a win-loss record of 31-21. In 2019, Monica helped her national team to reach the semifinal in the global event.
The veteran Niculescu’s absence might be considered a setback for the Romanian BJK Cup team. And Andreea Mitu was replaced in place of Monica. However, the current Romanian line-up will need a superpower to overcome the hulky Polish line-up, which included the new World No.1 Iga Swiatek.
