No. 3 seed Simona Halep registered the 400th WTA main-draw win of her career at the Miami Open 2021 after an hour and 48-minutes battle against French professional Caroline Garcia.

In February, the former World No.1 Halep began her 2021 season at Gippsland Trophy, where she lost a quarterfinal match to Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets. Afterwards, Romanian fell in the last eight to Serena Williams at the Australian Open

Following a five-week hiatus, World No.3 arrived in Miami Gardens with a nice bit of confidence. According to the main draw of the event, Simona directly qualified into the second round through bye.

However, Halep faced Caroline Garcia in the round of 64. Even though the former World No.4 took the lead in the first two sets(6-3, 3-1), Wimbledon Reigning champion claimed 11 out of 12 games in the last two sets(6-4, 6-0) to seal her third-round spot at the Hard Rock Stadium.

“She started very well, and her serve bothered me a lot, the kick. I needed time to get used to it and to get the rhythm,” Halep said after the match.

Romanian continued, “I felt like I was in the second set. I started moving better. I relaxed my legs, and I could work more with my legs. And I needed a little bit of extra power with her because she’s a powerful opponent, and I always have to push her back.”

Simona Halep also mentioned her right shoulder issue began her first-round match against Ajla Tomljanovic at the Melbourne major event.

“I struggled with my serve. I struggled with my shoulder a little bit, so the attention was a little bit on the pain,” the 2018 French Open title winner added.

Halep Reaches A Milestone In Her Career

The three-set comeback victory over Caroline Garcia became Halep’s 400th WTA main-draw win of her career.

When asking about her remarkable career achievement, Simona said, “I’m really happy to hear that. It’s impressive that I won so many matches in the main draw. I have many years there at the top also… When I face some tough moments during the matches, I know what to do. It’s from those 400 victories.”

However, Halep will now lock horns with the former World No.11 Anastasija Sevastova for the fourth round place in Miami.
