“I’m Staying Positive”: Simona Halep Gives Update on Injury After Receiving MRI Report

Simona Halep confirmed she got hurt in her left calf after receiving an MRI scan report. The two-time Grand Slam title winner also stated that she would begin the recovery process next week in Romania.  

A 29-year-old from Constanta has had a dry season so far. Despite reaching the semifinal at the Stuttgart Open, she could not shine in the rest of the tournaments this year. 

Wimbledon reigning champion recently competed at the Italian Open in Rome. Therein No.3 seed Halep walked over during the opening round encounter against Angelique Kerber due to a calf injury. 

An immediate ultrasound report revealed that she had a tear in her left calf. But, Halep said she was waiting for an MRI scan report knowing more detail about the injury.

However, Simona Halep announced she had a small tear high up in her left calf. She will start the healing process in the Swimming pool and gym as soon as possible and do everything as much as she can for a comeback.  

“Hi, guys! After an MRI here in Rome, I can confirm that I have a small tear high up in the left calf,” Halep wrote on her Twitter post.  

Romanian continued, “I will fly home today and begin recovery in the pool and gym on Monday. I’m staying positive and will do everything I can to speed up my return. Thanks again, and see you soon.”

Will Simona Halep Miss French Open 2021?

A fortnight after, the French Open will begin in Paris. According to tennis analysts, a couple of weeks could not be sufficient for Simona Halep to recover from her calf injury to compete in Paris this year. However, hopefully, she will get well and return to the tour sooner. 

Last year in Roland Garros, Simona Halep fell in the fourth round to eventual champion Iga Swiatek. French Open 2021 runs from 30th May to 13th June.
