American tennis sensation Coco Gauff continues her three-set winning streak in the women’s tennis circuit. However, the 16-years-old has now claimed another three-set victory (3-6, 6-0, 6-4) over the Czech Marketa Vondrousova into the third round at Dubai Tennis Championships 2021.

Nowadays, it is no surprise that Gauff is finishing matches in the decider. To reach her first WTA 500 event semifinal, she played four three-setters in a row in Adelaide last month.

Having played back-to-back three-sets blockbusters on the Dubai hard courts, Gauff revealed that she would like to conclude a match without dropping a set, but she is always ready to play if it goes into a decider.

“It doesn’t bother me. Obviously, I like to close in two, but a win is a win, and if it takes three sets, I’m willing to play three sets,” a wildcard entrant said in the post-match interview.

“I Like To Scream”, says Coco Gauff

After registering her fifth top 20 victory, American also emphasised the on-court disagreement during the match against World No. 20 Marketa Vondrousova.

Gauff continued, “I was asking when you toss the ball, are you allowed to catch it with your racquet. I thought you had to catch it with your hand or let it bounce first. The umpire said it’s allowed if it’s not a motion. It wasn’t meant to make her upset. It was just asking the question. I left it there, but I could tell she was a bit frustrated by that.”

When speaking about mounting tension in the third set of her match, Gauff went on to say, “my personality, I fight fire with fire. I lost the last two points of that game, and she had wild screams – and I like to scream, so I screamed back.”

However, Gauff has now played 25 three-setters in her 60 WTA main draw and qualifying matches and extended her record in final sets to 17-8.
