Former World No.1 Serena Williams has joined Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic in the withdrawal list of Miami Open 2021, which runs from 22nd March to 4th April. The 23-time Grand Slam has announced that she will be missed this year due to recent oral surgery.
The 39-years-old from Florida has won the Miami Open title eight times, which is more than any player in history. The host wore her last crown after beating Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in the final, 6–2, 6–0 in 2015.
“I am disappointed to withdraw from the Miami Open because of recent oral surgery,” Serena Williams said.
American further added, “Miami is a special tournament for me because it’s my home, and I am sad I won’t be able to see the incredible fans this year, but I look forward to coming back soon.”

Serena Williams is living in Palm Beach Garden, which is very close to the tournament venue. For one of these reasons, she has a huge fan base in Miami. However, the Miami Open tournament director said that they anticipate Williams will be back on the court soon and seek her presence next year.
Jame Black continued, “We will certainly miss having Serena at this year’s tournament, and I know it was a very difficult decision for her.”
