“We Have A Nice Room With A Balcony”- Dominic Thiem Shares His US Open 2020 Arrival Experience

While top players have pulled out from the US Open 2020 due to health concerns, at the same time, several players have arrived in New York. In a row, Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem has moved to the United States for upcoming events in Flushing Meadows.  

World No.03 Dominic Thiem and colleague Dennis Novak have recently arrived at New York. Thiem also explained about his accommodation facilities, He said, “We’re in this Garden Hotel, it’s really nice. We have a nice room with a balcony, which is incredibly valuable in New York. Dennis is also in the hotel, but we can’t see each other yet because we did the test yesterday on arrival and have such a blue bracelet.”

Additionally, Austrian talked about the COVID-19 test for the US Open participants and practice, “It only changes to green when the negative test result is there. Only then are we allowed to do something. We are only allowed to be in the room now and not even in the gym. The first training is only possible when we are negative.” 

The three-time Grand Slam event finalist spoke about his preparation for the upcoming Cincinnati Masters and the US Open 2020. Dominic Thiem went to say, “I trained very well. It was really ‘Zach’ (tough) for the first two days. There was no stress for a long time.”

During the pandemic, Thiem has participated in many hard and grass court exhibition tournaments across Europe. He hopes that will definitely help him to play well in New York’s major event.

Moreover, Dominic Thiem said about US Open 2020 Coronavirus protocols, “Yes, the security precautions are already very serious. We are 30 miles away from the city, we don’t even see the city, the airport was completely empty. Then by car to the main hotel, test there, then to the other hotel, now in the room for 14 hours.”
