Venus Williams Joins Sister Serena In The Top Seed Open; Other Big Names Include, Coco Gauff, Azarenka And Anisimova

The American legend Venus Williams announces joining sister Serena Williams in the opening edition of the Top Seed Open. Although, the tournament will take place next month in Lexington, Kentucky. 

Besides Venus, several other big names to participate are Victoria Azarenka, Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, and Sloane Stephens. Moreover, the tournament will act as a practice event before the big games of the US Open. The US Open will begin on August 31.

Venus Williams Waits For US Open Tournament

Additionally, Venus Williams is a seven-time Grand Slam winner. Moreover, two of these are from the US Open. While Victoria Azarenka is a two-time Grand Slam winner, Stephens is the 2017 US Open winner. Notably, Venus lost to Coco Gauff earlier this year, in the opening round of the Australian Open.

The 40-year-old, Venus is excited about a comeback and wants to play in the US Open. She is eager for the same if “it is safe to play”.

Although the event will have no crowd and media attention due to the ongoing pandemic, the American and all others are keen to make a comeback to the tennis court. Furthermore, this will be the first event for Venus since playing in some of the tournaments in Mexico. 

Schedule For WTA Tour

The Top Seed open will start on August 10. Additionally, it will go on till August 17. The tournament will feature various singles as well as doubles matches. In addition to this, the tournament also offers a cash prize of more than $225,000.

Furthermore, the Prague Open will also be going on at the same time in the CzechRepublic, Europe. Moreover, these are rather additions to the WTA tour. The entire WTA tour canceled due to the ongoing pandemic by mid-march.
