Former world number one Serena Williams and her fans desire she wants to win her 24th Grand Slam in the upcoming US Open 2020. While 38-years-old has been practicing for it, besides, seven-times Grand Slam Champion Mats Wilander believes the current US Open environment will help her to perform well.
Followed by the 2017 Australian Open Grand Slam title, Serena Williams reached the major event finals twice in a row at Wimbledon and the US Open(2018 & 2019). However, She did miss to convert into a Grand Slam title against new generation players like Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu.
Right now, Serena Williams is seeded number three in the US Open 2020. The event will begin on Monday(31st August) in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Swedish tennis great Mat Wilander said, “If Serena Williams doesn’t win this one, I’m starting to worry that she won’t think in her own mind that she has a chance to win another one elsewhere.”
Additionally, He added, “If she loses this time, I think people, and more specifically herself, would probably doubt that she can win another. It’s going to be harder to win the next one and the next one if you fall short.”
“On the other hand, if she can win this one, I think it will give her some confidence that she can go ahead and win one more pair, but if she doesn’t win this one, only three or four of the top ten are there, I think it will be a blow to her.”, the Eurosport analyst mentioned.
“This Is a Perfect Situation for Serena”-Mats Wilander
This year’s US Open will play behind closed doors due to ongoing pandemic. There are no fans will not allow sitting on the stands to watch the matches.
The 56-years-old Swedish former tennis player Mats Wilander explained, “Maybe the absence of a crowd will help her. They’re pulling so much for her that I think she gets caught up in the whole historical thing and maybe this is an opportunity for her to walk with her baby in a stroller around the US Open grounds, can you imagine that? There is no way she can do that, now she can do that.”
“When you look at how the crowd has affected her in the last finals, it hasn’t been anything positive. So maybe this is a perfect situation for Serena.”, the tennis Hall of Fame Mats Wilander concluded.
