“That’s Probably My Biggest Advantage”- Dominic Thiem Reveals His Hopes for Felix Auger Aliassime Encounter at US Open



World No.03 Dominic Thiem reached the US Open fourth round after defeating former champion Marin Cilic. The second-seeded will now play Felix Auger Aliassime at the quarterfinal decider.

However, The round of 16 matches would be the first international tour meeting between Thiem and Felix Auger Aliassime. While The twenty years old Canadian has a 17-10 record in 2020, twenty-seven years-old Austrian has a 12-5 record on the same.

After the third-round match on Saturday, Thiem admitted he is really excited about the upcoming match against one of the youngest players in the ATP tour Felix. He also believes his Grand Slam experiences will help him to overcome the world number twenty one.

While Dominic Thiem admires rising tennis stars, besides he looks forward to competing against them as well. 

Thiem said, “I mean, I’m into tennis a lot. Of course, I always know when there are very good young players coming up. It’s the same with Carlos Alcaraz now. We know that these guys are going to be super good, that it’s only a question of time until they get to the very top.”

Additionally, he went on to say, “With Felix, it was the same. I think when he was only 16 or something he won his first challenger in France I remember. Then last year he played finals in Rio, played great in Indian Wells, semis in Miami. He was right at the top.”

“I mean, he’s a great player, as I said. No real weaknesses. Great to watch. Great athlete, great person. The only thing what he’s missing is the experience. That’s what I’m trying to play to my advantage. It’s not my first second week at a slam, but it’s his. That’s probably my biggest advantage what I have in this match.”, he added.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’m always looking forward to playing against these young superstars, as I’m 27 for a few days, not young anymore. I think going to be a great encounter.”, the three-times Grand Slam finalist concluded.

Notably, Felix Agur Aliassime upset three-times major winner Andy Murray in the straight sets at the round of 64 last week. Moreover, the match will not be easy for Thiem as well!
