French professional Fiona Ferro wins the 31st Palermo Ladies Open. Additionally, she defeated Anett Kontaveit in two straight sets. Moreover, she becomes the first champion of any event after the restarting of the game. The tennis tour was suspended for five months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Palermo Ladies Open was organized in Italy from 3rd August to 9th August. Fiona ranks 44 now in the world, while her competitor Anett ranks 20th. Additionally, Anett Kontaveit is also an Australian Open quarter-finalist. Hence, the defeat was a shock for not only the player but for the viewers too.

Fiona Ferro came at the top of her competitor after one hour and 43 minutes, defeating her by 6-2, 7-5.

Additionally, this is a happy moment for all tennis fans all over the world. The last champion before the suspension was Elina Svitolina in March.

Further, the 23-year-old Ferro is only the second time finalist in any of the tournaments. However, she has won the finals on both occasions. 

In the match, Fiona Ferro did not look like losing it anytime. Her aggressive serves and some astonishing plays were good enough to win her the second title after a wait of one long year.

The Estonian Anett Kontaveit additionally was playing the sixth final of her tennis career. But the 24-year-old had no answer to the hammering smashes and powerful shots of the eventual winner Ferro.

Ferro, after winning the match said, ” I think it was my best match of the week. I was feeling relaxed. I don’t know why because it was final and was not really feeling the pressure.”

In addition to this, she also said, ” I had a good intensity throughout the whole match. I didn’t miss a lot and made many winners.”
