Laver Cup is an officially sanctioned ATP Tour event. It has been played between Team Europe and Team World since 2017. And while the 2020 version cancelled due to pandemic, the next year event will take place in Boston, United States. However, the US Open reigning Dominic Thiem is eager to play in 2021 edition of the Team event.
Austrian will represent Team Europe in the Laver Cup for the third time following Prague(2017) and Geneva(2019). Thiem has a 2-1 win-loss record on his name so far.
The 27-years-old has recently confirmed his participation in the 2021 Boston tournament. Thiem said, “The Laver Cup is a fantastic event, and I’m really excited to be a part of Team Europe for the Boston edition.”
And also, Thiem reminisced about memories of the Laver Cup. He expressed, “It’s so cool to be competing as part of a team with guys I’m normally facing across the net. We have so much fun together.”
ATP World Finals runner up continued, “I’ve been lucky enough to be on the winning side at two of the three Laver Cups so far – in Prague and Geneva, and it’s a really unique event, like no other on tour. I’m looking forward to helping Team Europe capture a fourth title.”
Learning tennis lessons from legends Bjorn Borg and Roger Federer while playing at the Laver Cup, Dominic added, “I also still learn a lot from the likes of Roger and Bjorn, who have so much experience in the game.”

Thiem finished the 2020 season with outstanding performances. He has managed to reach the back to back major finals this year. Austrian won first-ever Grand Slam title at the US Open amidst abnormal conditions.
Dominic reached the second consecutive final of the ATP World Finals at the O2. On the other hand, He is now holding third place at the Associational Tennis Professionals Ranking.
Former World No.1 and Captain of Team Europe, Bjorn Borg had all appreciation for the Australian Open finalist.
The 64-years-old Swedish expressed, “Dom has had an incredible season, despite the unprecedented circumstances. He consistently performs at the top level, and it was great to see him win his first Slam earlier in the year in New York.”
