Simona Halep Returns To Tennis After Pandemic In Romania

Followed by three and a half months unusual break due to COVID-19, the sports world is on the line of resuming their activities. The tennis governing bodies has announced a schedule for the remaining season of 2020. However, several players have started their tennis practice, and they also have been participating in domestic tournaments. Consequently, Former world number one Simona Halep will play in Romania Friendly Tennis Tournament.

Tennis tournament returns at the beginning of July in Cluj-Napoca în România. Six players from the home country will participate in this tournament. Matches will take place at Winners Club in Cluj in between July 2 to 5 with cash prizes.

Moreover, Two time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep will also take part in this tournament. Halep will play a mixed doubles match with Horia Tecau. On the other hand, Romanian ATP Star Marius Copil will play with the winner of this tournament.

The tournament will have two groups of three players, and they will play each other in the group. The top two players from each group will play in the semifinals. Irina Begu, Jaqueline Cristian, Irina Bara, Gabriela Ruse, Miriam Bulgaru, and Georgia Crăciun will be the participants in this Friendly tournament.

In Digi Sport’s “Aces of Tennis” Show, manager of the Winners Open, Patrick Ciorcilă said that this event will restart the tennis in Romania.

“I am happy to announce that we are resuming sporting events. This idea came in collaboration with the Sports Festival and Cosmin Hodor. It’s a restart for Romanian tennis, especially for players. I am convinced that in the absence of tournaments they need matches, adrenaline, and the training they had before.

The tournament will be public, public access will be restricted. I say it’s a big step we can take towards normalcy. We will have six players: Irina Begu, Jaqueline Cristian, Irina Bara, Gabriela Ruse, Miriam Bulgaru, and Giorgia Crăciun” he said in the show.
