“Serena Williams Is Anxious To Get Back, We’re Super Excited”- The Top Seed Open Director


With the ongoing pandemic, all the tennis tournaments have been on hold for the past several months. But the former world number one Serena Williams cannot seem to wait to get back on the court. Hearing from the legend herself shocked the Top Seed tournament, as the event generally does not draw the attention of top players such as Williams.

After the enforced break due to the coronavirus this year, the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion reached out to the Top Seed Open management herself, and they couldn’t be more excited.

“We’re super excited, looking forward to Serena’s participation. This is a great opportunity.” the tournament director Jon Sanders said to ESPN.

He also added, “Serena is anxious to get back on the court and play. Her people told us she is ready to gear up and get prepped for New York.”

Additionally, Serena Williams will be a part of the top seed open this year and will play preparatory to the upcoming US Open.“She reached out to us about playing, and we chatted, and it ended up being a great relationship.” the director added.

Moreover, the top seed open will be taking place in Lexington, US. The event commences on August 10 and ends on August 16, 2020. Besides, This year, Williams became the first confirmed entrant for the new WTA event. 

The tennis legend will be playing this tournament as a warm-up event ahead of the slam in New York, which might be the one making her a record holder.

Furthermore, Serena Willams has won 23 singles Grand Slam titles, the highest in the open era and the second-best ever after Margaret Court. Besides, the retired Australian tennis player has won 24 grand slam singles titles in her career, and people wait to see if the American can equal Margaret’s record.
