American ace Serena Williams is in the quest to win one more Grand Slam title to equal the Australian Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24. Meanwhile, the 39-year-old announced her withdrawal from the upcoming US Open 2021 due to an injury concern.
In a social media post, the former World No.1 stated that she has not entirely recuperated from the leg injury that forced her to withdraw from her Wimbledon opening match against Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
“After careful consideration and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to allow my body to heal completely from a torn hamstring,” the 23-time Grand Slam champion wrote.
“New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world and one of my favourite places to play – I’ll miss seeing the fans but will be cheering everyone on from afar,” the six-time US Open Champion added.
Moreover, Serena Williams did not mention when she resumes her WTA Tour action. “Thank you for your continued support and love. I’ll see you soon,” she concluded.
Serena will miss the home major event for the sixth time in her career. The US Open 2021 will occur from 30th August to 12th September in New York City.
