While the 20 times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is not participating in the US Open 2020 due to his surgery, people are kept on remembering his legacy and character.

An interesting fact that Roger Federer had won almost 50 games out of the 58 games against the Croatian players. The Croatian players such as Ivan Ljubicic (3), Mario Ancic (1), Ivo Karlovic (1), Marin Cilic (1), and Borna Coric (2) are the ones who were able to win the match against the Swiss tennis legend.

Moreover, all those Croatian players do not have any great record against Federer. Ivan Vajda had beaten the 16-year-old Federer in a small tournament in Uster, Switzerland in 1997. Likely Davor Grgic beat Roger at the Under-14 Sunshine Cup in the United States.

But Roger reciprocated by winning the matches against Grgic in Lille and Milan, respectively. Former Croatian tennis player Grgic recalled the nostalgic moments and past experiences with Roger during an interview with the news site 24sata.hr.

Grgic on remembering the Nostalgic Moments with Roger Federer

Grgic said, “We were good friends,”. He added further “My coach at the time, from New Zealand, and his Australian (Peter Carter, who died prematurely at the age of 38), knew each other and I was often traveling with him.”

Grgic also shared how they departed and said “We went out often together. We also spoke on the phone, but then when he entered the top 10, he changed his number and we haven’t been in touch since.”

Even though the Croatian had seen Roger last year in Australia, but he didn’t want to bother him. He stated the reason why he did not approach “I repeat, I’m not someone who wants to get noticed and then who knows if he would have remembered me”

Grgic added further “Because Roger Federer is what he is today, a real legend, while I’m an ordinary man in a small town. It is heaven and earth. But, yes, I beat him. And that is our first mutual meeting out of a total of three. It was in America at the Under-14 Sunshine Cup.”
