While the audience and the journalists are obsessed with the GOAT of men tennis, former women’s world number one Serena Williams wishes to stay from this debate.
Additionally, Nadal, who has 19 Grand Slam titles to his name, has the opportunity to tie with Federer’s 20 titles in the French Open 2020. Besides, the Spaniard already has won 12 Grand Slam titles at the red-dirt surface.
During the interview, Serena Williams was asked about the importance of Nadal winning the 13th title here and equalling Federer’s tally of 20 Grand Slams.
Moreover, the 23-times Grand Slam winner was also asked to tell the GOAT of the men tennis. However, Serena said, “I think Rafa, I am obviously a huge fan of his. I always have been. But it is like you can’t compare two men that are equally great.”
She added, “Roger, I mean, he is Roger Federer. I think that says enough.”
“I Am A Big Fan Of Both” – Serena Williams
In addition to this, Serena also shared about the exceptional career of both the players. She said, “So, it is like I do not understand why people want to pit who is this and who is that? They both have spectacular careers that 99% of people can only dream of.”
Serena also added, “Every single credit and every single thing that they get, they absolutely deserve it. I am a big fan of both.”
In addition to this, Serena is seeded number 6 in the tournament. Moreover, she is looking to equal the Australian Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles.
After a comfortable first-round win, Williams will now play Tsvetana Pironkova in the next match. After losses in the last four Grand Slam final appearances, Williams will now look to jump back to her best and win the tournament.
However, it is not going to be easy for the former world number one. Williams might have to face rival Victoria Azarenka in the coming matches.
