“Playing The Final Against Serena Williams Is The Biggest Challenge”- Lucie Safarova

All tennis players dream of playing in the Grand Slam matches. Especially playing in the finals is the ultimate thing. However, It is not an easy thing to reach the Roland Garros finals. And fighting against world number one player is a good rival. Former World number five Lucie Safarova reminisces about the 2015 Roland Garros final against Serena Williams. 

“I started the 2015 French Open with a tight match against my best friend on tour Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. It is good to play the first match against a friend. After that, I played amazing tennis. Beating former champion Maria Sharapova, Garbine Muguruza. And you know I still have clay on my back.!! after beating Ana Ivanovic in the semifinal and am in my first Grand Slam final,” Safarova said to WTA tennis.

“Playing the final against Serena is the biggest challenge on tour. She is a legend and an amazing player. I was losing and all thought that was an easy final for Serena. But I battled it and lost in three sets. And am happy about my result. Day After I won the doubles title with Bethanie Matek Sands. And I concluded two special weeks of my life” Safarova recalled her memories about the 2015 French Open.

In the final match, Safarova lost her first set. When Serena led 4-1 in the second set, Safarova battled back and won in the tie break. In the decider, Safarova leads 2-0 and shock on cards. Eventually, Serena Williams showed her muscle power and won six games continuously to lifted her third French Open title.

Lucie Safarova played the last match of her career on 29 May 2019. she lost the first round of the doubles competition, with her friend Dominika Cibulkova at French Open. After the match, she confirmed her retirement, effective immediately. On the next day, she received an award at the French Open, in honor of her achievements in Paris (runner up in 2015 and 2 doubles titles in 2015 and 2017).

“I can’t believe it’s five years ago. It feels like last year. I’ve still got amazing memories. I’ve probably not had a better two weeks of my life on Tour,”  Safarova added.

“I have other problems right now. having a baby and duties of mom. I really enjoying it. This year or next year I am coming to Paris as a fan,” the 2014 Wimbledon Semifinalist concluded.
