Belinda Bencic, currently the 8th best women tennis player thinks of opting out of the U.S.Open 2020. Although the U.S.Open 2020 will begin on 31st August, many players are not sure of playing in the tournament. The reason for the same is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Among such players is the Swiss tennis star Bencic who said in an interview with Tages- Anzeiger, “I would be happy to play a Grand Slam again. But New York and the United States are very special right now. We would be living in a bubble. But no one can guarantee your security.”

In addition to this, she also added, “So, I personally think it would be a bit early to play there. Although, maybe I would also play. I can think of but not really imagine that really is the US Open through them. I am not too keen on getting on the plane under these rules and conditions. Instead, I would go somewhere by car.”
However, the 23- year old has amazing memories from the last year’s U.S.Open 2020. Additionally, she made it to the semifinal of the tournament. She lost to Bianca Andreescu, who went on to become the champion.
Besides Belinda, there are other big names too who are unsure of playing in the event. Novak Djokovic has already said that that he may decide to not play the tournament due to the restrictions imposed.
However, there all also many who will be participating in the event on 31st August. Former world number one, Serena Williams has already given her surety of competing in the event. Further, Dominic Thiem, who initially was worried, will also be seen in action.
