“Love What Andy Is Doing”: Coco Gauff Inspired By Murray’s On And Off Court Pursuit

Andy Murray has often been raising his voices against the on and off-court injustice matters. The three-time Grand Slam winner recently called out  Australian tennis legend Magaret Court due to her critics against transgender athletes and same-sex marriage.  

However, the 16-year-old American rising tennis star Coco Gauff was inspired by Andy Murray when he spotlighted the BAME board members deficiency in Britain tennis associations(Lawn Tennis Association and All England Club) his Instagram post.

After a round of 16 matches loss at the ongoing Ostrava Open 2020, Coco Gauff said of Andy Murray, “Nothing’s wrong with asking for more diversity. For him to say, that is definitely inspiring, especially with him being a man and white. For someone like him to call for variety, it shows how great an ally he is – I love what Andy is doing on and off the court.”

While the 33-years-old Andy Murray is a favorite for the bunch of tennis players because of his on-court attitude and style aspect, he is undoubtedly one of the favorite players for teenager Coco Gauff. Linz Open Reigning also expressed, “He’s one of my favorite players to watch.”

Speaking about diversity, world number fifty-five explained, “It’s important we do have diversity because there are people from all over the world from different backgrounds and areas and I think representation is important. At least for me, as a girl – seeing yourself being represented means a lot.”

Former world number one Murray withdrew from the Cologne 2 ATP 250 event owing to injury. Simultaneously, Gauff was eliminated from Ostrava Open 2020 after three sets lost against third-seeded Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday.
