Novak Djokovic was disqualified from the US Open 2020 when he hit the line judge with the tournament ball, though not purposefully. In the French Open as well, the Serbian hit another line-judge. And this time, it was the face where the ball hit. However, he was not into default this time as the incident took place while the play was going on.
But the world number one admitted that he was in a feeling of ‘deja vu’ when this incident happened. Besides, Djokovic was looking forward to checking on the line-judge if he is okay or not.
Djokovic said, “My gosh, it was a very awkward deja vu.” In addition to this, the Serb also said, “I am actually trying to find the linesperson and see if he is okay. This is because I saw he had a little bit of a bruise. It was like redness, in that place in the head where the ball hit him.”
Novak Djokovic Into Another Quarter Final
Moreover, the 17 times Grand Slam winner explained, “I hope he is fine. I mean, he definitely dealt with it powerfully and bravely. But it was a hit because I was very close.”
Remembering the US Open incident, Djokovic said, “Obviously, because of what took place in New York, people I guess are going to make a story out of this. It has taken place with me. And to many other players in the last 15 years that I have been on tour.
I have seen a lot when the ball ricochets from the racquet and the frame hit someone in the stands, or someone that is close to you, or line judge. Yeah, it was a very awkward situation.” Serb added.
Additionally, this incident happened in the fourth round match against the Russian Karen Khachanov. Moreover, Djokovic defeated his opponent by 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Novak will now face Pablo Carreno Busto in the quarter-final.
