“Less Great Than Usual”: Boris Becker Comments on Rafael Nadal’s 13th Title at French Open 2020

Tennis legend, Boris Becker, believes that while Nadal is still the favorite to win the French Open 2020, the former world number one thinks it will be tough for Nadal this time.

Winning the French Open will hold a lot of importance for Nadal, as it will be his 13th Grand Slam title at the French Open if he wins it. Although the Spaniard was defeated in the quarter-finals of the Italian Open, he remains the favorite to win at the Roland Garros.

The German believes that not playing any competitive event for the last so many months might affect Nadal’s performance. Moreover, he also believes that this might also provide a golden opportunity for other players to compete for the trophy.

Additionally, Novak Djokovic has been a threat to Nadal in the last many years, defeating Nadal in 2015 at the quarter-finals of the event. Besides, the Serb also won the recently concluded Italian Open 2020 and is a stronger contender to win the event.

“Even A Rafael Nadal Needs A Match Practice”- Boris Becker

Boris said, “This year is going to be tough, especially for Rafael Nadal. He is my number one favorite, but the distance between him and the rest of the tennis players this year is less great than usual.”

Other than Djokovic, US Open champion Dominic Thiem is also one of the favorites to win at the red dirt. Besides, Thiem has always been tough to beat on the clay surface and has reached finals in the last two years of the Frech Open. However, he lost to Nadal on both incidents.
