Novak Djokovic, the world number one, believes that he is not the right person to comment on tennis’s GOAT. Additionally, the Serbian says that he will let this topic be a part of the debate for others.
Besides, Djokovic will be playing in the upcoming tournament in Vienna. And he will be chasing various records and would like to break the same. Additionally, he would be able to make his position even stronger and secure at the number one if he can win two matches there. This would help him to tie a record with another tennis legend Pete Sampras.
However, even with such amazing records, Djokovic believes that it would be good if he did not comment on the GOAT debate. In conversation with the press, Djokovic said, “I leave the GOAT debate to others. It is just not my place.”
“For Me Personally, Temporary Ranking System Is Great”- Djokovic
Djokovic’s concentration as of now is on keeping his number one position secured. He said, “I am trying to keep the number one position ranking.’‘ Additionally, Pete Sampras has always been an idol for the Serbian while growing up. Serb added, “Sampras has been my idol growing up. And it would be great to tie his record of six-year end world number ones.”
Besides, the Serbian would also secure his position, irrespective of what happens at the Australian Open in 2021. Under this temporary ranking system, which will continue till March, Djokovic’s position will remain intact. Djokovic said, “For me personally, this is great, as I already have many points.”
In addition to this, Djokovic would also surpass Roger Federer’s record of staying at the number one position for the highest number of weeks. Djokovic said, “I hope that I can reach historic number one in March. But everything is unpredictable in tennis.”
