Rising star Coco Gauff has been showcasing her best tennis since she turned into a professional. To date, the 16-years-old upset several top players, and simultaneously, she is not allowing herself to go out of the top 100 players list. However, the American teenager began the Ostrava Open 2020 as a qualifier last week in the Czech Republic.
After the three straight-set victories, Gauff has faced the third-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in her second-round match on Thursday. And while Coco held the lead in the match after winning the first set 6-1, she lost the second(5-7) and third(6-7) sets, followed by marathon rallies.
Speaking about her performance in a round of 16 matches, Coco Gauff said, “I mean, I really don’t like losing, so I don’t look at it that way. I just need to play a little bit smarter on pressure points to make my opponent play.”
World No.55 continued, “I feel like I wasn’t nervous today – I think I just need to be smarter. Sometimes I have tendencies, when it gets to the end, to rush out of the points when instead I should just put the ball in the court.”
“She’s(Coco Gauff) So young, and She’s Moving Really Really Well”: Aryna Sabalenka
After winning her sixth WTA singles title at the Qatar Open earlier this year, the World No.12 Sabalenka has been struggling to gain momentum in her recent matches. Additionally, She lost one of her matches to Gauff at the Top Seed Open couple of months ago in Lexington.
Meanwhile, the winner of the match, Aryna Sabalenka, has not missed praising her opponent Gauff. Belarusian said of American, “She’s a great player, she’s so young, and she’s moving really really well. It’s long rallies all the time, and it’s not easy to make a winner or find a way of finishing the point against her. I mean, she’s great. She’s 16, and she’s playing on this level – I would like to be on this level when I was 16!”
