Rafael Nadal, the clay-court specialist, is a Spanish professional tennis player. He owns this title for a reason and holds the record for the greatest number of French Open titles. The Spaniard had been questioning playing at this year’s US Open but decided against it.
The tennis star who already enjoys a huge fan following all around the world now has another fan who admires him. The renowned Spanish actress Cristina Castano recently visited Rafael Nadal’s academy and praised his personality. The actress went to the academy as an ambassador of a project and surely enjoyed her time while there.
“Thank you Rafa for your time and for receiving us so well. For those of you who do not know him in person, that you know that he is a real charm and that under the masks we are smiling.”, Castano said.
“It is dangerous for my body and my future.”- Nadal
The 19-time Grand Slam champion has a very aggressive style of play and has proved to be very taxing for him physically. In 2009, tendonitis in the knees caused the Spaniard to be prematurely eliminated from Roland Garros. After which he admitted that playing a lot on the hard-court causes strain on the body and has asked for the ATP tour calendar to be changed for the same reason.
Moreover, With the forced lockdown taking up most of this year, the tournaments will be taking place one after the other within a very short time. It is the exact reason why the 34-year-old decided to back out from the US Open 2020.
“The health situation is the first basic inconvenience when making my decision. The situation seems not in full control. So, in this case, after consulting with my team, we decided to skip the US Open.
Second, the schedule is challenging after many months without competing. Going from hardcourt to clay, with hardly any time for preparation, is dangerous for my body and my future.”, Rafael Nadal admitted in a Q&A.
Jimmy Connors also commented on Nadal’s style of play and appreciated his integrity
“He’s built from a mold that I think I come from too, you walk out there, you give everything you have from the first point to the end, no matter what it is (the score). And you’re willing to lay it all on the line and you’re not afraid to let people see it.”, Jimmy Connors said.
Even though we won’t be able to watch Nadal compete in the US Open this year, he for sure will come back stronger in the Roland Garros!
