Tsvetana Pironkova returned to WTA tours after pregnancy hiatus and is now making an incredible comeback at the US Open 2020. Nevertheless, Bulgarian is keenly looking forward to facing Serena Williams at the quarterfinals.
The 32-years-old Pironkova has not played in the WTA tours since the 2017 US Open series due to injury and childbirth. However, the unranked player upset seeded players Garbine Muguruza and Donna Vekic in the straight sets in her comeback.
After a three-set win against Alize Cornet, Tsvetana Pironkova sets up a clash with Serena at the ongoing New York major.

Williams and Pironkova will be competing the fifth time in their career at the US Open 2020 semifinal decider. Serena also leads Bulgarian in head to head(4-0). It will be the first meet in the US Open and the last five years.
In the post-match interview, the 2010 Wimbledon semifinalist Pironkova praised her next match opponent Serena Williams. Additionally, she said, “Yeah, definitely a tough one. I played against Serena a few times. I haven’t won it today. Playing such a champion, such a legend of the game, it’s a tremendous honor, obviously. I’m really looking forward to that match because I know the feeling is going to be very special.”
When Pironkova hailed Serena Williams, “She’s obviously a legend. Physically she’s super strong. Mentally she’s super strong. She has it all.”
Bulgarian further mentioned, “obviously US Open holds a special place in my heart. I have played well here before. I reached last 16, I’m not sure, 2013 maybe.”
While the exciting match will be played on Wednesday(9th September) in Flushing Meadows, besides, Serena Wiliams defeated Maria Sakkari in her previous match after losing a set.
