Venus Williams played against younger Sibling Serena in the second round of the Top Seed Open at Lexington in Kentucky on Thursday. While she was leading the game by winning the first set 6-3, Serena came back into the match by winning both the second and the third sets. Finally, the winner of this sibling rivalry was the younger sibling Serena Williams winning the match by 3-6,6-3,6-4.
Additionally, this was the 31st meeting of the two. A great match is always expected to happen when the sisters meet each other. And this match was no less. Besides, there was not a single glance shared by the two before the event. It was a special moment for both the players as it was 22 years since their first meet.
While the match looked more like a practice event for others, it was just not the same for the Williams sisters. Venus Williams, the elder sister said, “It is a real match and real points with real consequences.”
“Just Ran Out Of Time”- Venus Williams On Losing The Match
After losing the 19th match in the 31 meetings between both American legends, Venus Williams said, “Just ran out of time. That is kind of what it felt like. Sometimes maybe went for a little too much. But it is probably better to do that than, I don’t know, get killed.”
While both the players play more against each other in the bigger tournaments, this was the second round of the lowest category in WTA.
While many would think that this might be the last meeting of the two, both players may have different plans. Even before making it to the court, Venus Williams said, “Here we go again.” Additionally, she said, “Number 31 and I am looking forward to the next one, after this too.”
