“I’m Not Going To Ruin”: Simona Halep After an Unfortunate Loss At French Open 2020

While Simona Halep was a favorite to win the French Open 2020, Romanian was defeated by 19-years-old Iga Swiatek before reaching the quarter-finals on Sunday. The top-seeded also lost her match in the straight sets against an unseeded opponent(6-1, 6-2) on the Parisian clay.

The world number two was unbeaten since February when she won her this season’s first WTA singles title at the Dubai tennis championships. Halep also was continued her winning streak in the tennis tours resumption as well. Additionally, She won titles in Prague and the Italian Open in the last couple of months. 

Even though Simona Halep was in good form before entering into Roland Garros this year, she missed a golden opportunity to win her second title.

After the match, Simona Halep explained, “It was a fantastic year with all the tough moments that we all had, so I’m not going to ruin the whole year just for a match. Of course, it’s not easy to take, but I’m used to some tough moments in this career.”

Besides, the 2018 Roland Garros Champion expressed, “So, I will have chocolate, and I will be better tomorrow.”

Whereas Iga Swiatek has registered her first top ten wins after breaking Halep’s career-best winning streak 17-0, Polish also has received praise from her opponent.

Speaking about the winner of the match, Halep said,  “All the credit to her, she played unbelievable today, and she was everywhere, and she hit all the balls in very strong, very powerful…. It was her match today.”

After a comfortable win, Swiatek became the second Polish woman in the open era to reach the French Open quarter-finals. In addition to this, Agnieszka Radwanska made her last eight presence in 2013.
