“I’m Actually Super Fit and I’m Super Ready- Serena Williams Reveals Her Fitness Level Ahead of US Open 2020

Serena Williams reached pre-quarterfinals at the Western and Southern Open 2020. Two times event champion defeated Netherlands qualifier Arantxa Rus 7-6(6), 3-6, 7-6(0) in the three sets at the round of 32.

23 times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams spoke about her court performance and fitness level in the post-match press conference.

Former world number one Serena said, “Now I feel like I have passed that test, and now I can pass the test at the Open, playing Ashe Stadium. She additionally added, “Physically I feel like I’m incredibly fit. I did hit a wall today in the second set. I was so hot. That never happens.” 

Junior Williams also explained, “Tennis is mental. You know, it’s all mental.”

World number nine also did say about her upcoming match against Maria Sakkari, “I’m taking it a day at a time. I’m going to see how I feel tomorrow obviously. But I’m ready. I’m excited.”  

Moreover, the third-seeded Williams will play 13th seeded Sakkari on Tuesday(25th August) in the Western and Southern Open 2020 round of 16. Furthermore, They are going to meet the first time in the WTA tours. The match will take place at Grand Stand, Flushing Meadows.

While Serena Williams is chasing her 24th Grand Slam title to equal the Australian Margret Courts all-time record, this year’s major events, US Open and French Open will take place in a short period due to ongoing pandemic.

If Williams will miss her Grand Slam chance at the New York major event, at the same time she has additional opportunity to win her 24th Grand Slam title at Paris major. 

She also said, “I’m actually super fit and I’m super ready. I feel like I’m ready for anything. I think the reason I wanted to be super fit was that it is six weeks in a row basically playing tennis every day, so this is a really good opportunity for me to get ready and be super ready for clay, as well.”

While the US Open 2020 will take place from 31st August to 13th September, Besides, the French Open 2020 will begin from 27th September.
