This year’s French Open victory was a remarkable one for Rafael Nadal’s career. Spaniard lifted his 13th Roland Garros title amidst totally different conditions and against incorrect predictions. While everyone showers praise on Rafa, the Romanian tennis player Irina Bara reveals she would feel guilty if Nadal didn’t win the title on the Parisian clay this year.
The 25-years-old Bara also reached Grand Slam event main draw for the first time in her career as a qualifier. In the round of 32, She was defeated by Sofia Kenin, who eventually played the French Open 2020 final. Earlier, Irina upset 26-seeded Donna Vekic in the straight sets.
“I Was Going To Hurt Him(Nadal) Pretty Badly If I Dropped”: Irina Bara
In the recent interview with GSP, World No.115 Romanian reminisced an unfortunate accident with his men’s favorite Rafael Nadal at the recently concluded French Open 2020.
Irina Bara expressed, “It simply came to our notice then at Roland Garros. I was coming out of the girls’ locker room and I had a very heavy external battery, which I used to charge my phone. Nadal was warming up, and I didn’t want to bother him.”
She continued, “I tried to get around it, get out of there as soon as possible, and at that moment, I dropped the battery. I was going to drop it on his leg. I didn’t hit him, thank God, but I was going to hurt him pretty badly if I dropped the battery on his leg.”
However, Irina apologized, and Nadal said, “Don’t worry, no problem!” Romanian added, I left as soon as possible. I was ashamed. And I felt very bad. I felt guilty about Nadal’s injury. I thought that if he didn’t win this year, I was guilty, and I couldn’t live with that. Funny things always happen, but this is very fresh, and that’s why I remembered it”.
