“I Agree 100% With Him”: Novak Djokovic on Rafael Nadal’s Recent Statement at French Open 2020

After winning the 70th match at Roland Garros concurrently securing a seat in the third round of French Open 2020, Novak Djokovic agrees with Nadal on the topic of underarms serves in tennis. 

The reappearance of the tactic seen in the last couple of years has led players to think outside the box. However, the tactic has received mixed views from the players. Moreover, some of them think of this as against the spirit of sports.

Additionally, Djokovic believes that the underarm serve is disrespectful towards the opponent and claims it not to be a good thing. The world number one also believes that the primary aim should be to improve the game. “It is more about ourselves and whether we feel good or not,” he said.

He continued, “I saw what Nadal said about it, and I agree 100% with him. So I don’t want to repeat his statement. If you see his statement, I agree with every word.”

“I Do Not See It As Disrespectful”- Nadal

After Nadal‘s previous comments on Nick Kyrgios for serving underarm at him but he seems to change his heart since then .“I don’t see it as disrespectful,” he explained after his win over Mackenzie McDonald.

He also mentions the various tips and tricks to be followed simultaneously, being aware of the gameplay referring underarm serves, not disrespectful rather than excellent. Exploring new ways of gameplay and improving game skills is a perfect way to achieve.

“If you do it intending to improve your game, or like a tactical thing, I support it 100%. But if you do it to disrespect the opponent, it is not a good thing. It is part of the rules, and you can do it”, Djokovic added.

Additionally, Djokovic is seeded top at the Roland Garros, while Nadal is still the favorite to win the title. With 12 titles already to his name in Paris, the Spaniard would like to equal Roger Federer’s 20 Grand Slams record. Additionally, Nadal is one behind at 19.
