Andrey Rublev has been playing great tennis in recent days. Russian also has bagged five singles titles this year. Additionally, Rublev has entered into ATP top ten lists and qualified for London Masters for the first time in his career.
In a recent conversation with Gael Monfils ahead of London ATP Finals, the 2016 title winner Andy Murray had all appreciation for world number eight Andrey Rublev. Former world number one said of Rublev, “I’ve actually practised with him a lot. “I get on well with him. Unbelievable power. Huge hitter. He hits the ball at that pace from the first ball of every practice session.”
Andy Murray was also impressed by Andrey Rublev’s aggressive play and his love on the game. 33-years-old Briton continued, “He had a brilliant year, and I think he will like the conditions in London so it will be interesting to see how he gets on there.”
“He(Nadal) Will Force Andrey To Defend A Lot”: Andy Murray
In the first ATP Finals, Andrey Rublev has been handed a tough draw. He needs to pass the test against Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and the defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas before reaching the next stage at the O2 Arena.
Talking about Rublev’s opening encounter against second-seeded Spaniard, Andy Murray expressed, “I think Rafa will deal with his game quite well, with the power side. Rafa doesn’t always get enough credit for how much he makes his opponents move and how he makes them work, and I think he will force Andrey to defend a lot.”
Andrey Rublev and Rafael Nadal have only clashed once at the 2017 US Open quarterfinal, where Russian lost to Spanish in the straight sets(1-6, 2-6, 2-6).
