While world number seven, Alexander Zverev has qualified for the Grand Slam semifinals second time in his career, tennis legend Martina Navratilova showered criticism on the German tennis star.
The fifth-seeded Alexander Zverve reached the US Open 2020 semifinals on Tuesday. Additionally, he defeated Croatian Borna Coric after losing a set in Flushing Meadows.
However, 18 times Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova has commented over Zverve’s performance against 27th Seeded Borna Coric at the ongoing US Open quarterfinals.
Additionally, Navratilova said, “He will not be able to win against the top players playing the way he did today.”
“You won’t beat the top players that way because they will be fired up and they’re too good for that. You can’t just play pat-a-cake.”, the 63-years-old added.
“Maybe She(Navratilova ) Should Look at My Record Against the Big Guys”- Alexander Zverev
While 22-years-old has a winning 4-3 record against Roger Federer, Zverev has beaten Djokovic and Rafael Nadal twice and once respectively. All seven victories have come in the finals of ATP Masters 1000 and above.
Notably, Alexander lifted his first ATP Tour finals title after defeating Serbian in the straight sets(6-4, 6-3) in 2018.
After the quarterfinal match in the interview, Zverve answered when he was about Navratolina’s criticism, “Maybe she should look at my record against the big guys. Maybe she should look that I’m positive against Roger (Federer). And maybe she should look that I’ve beaten Novak (Djokovic) on multiple occasions in big matches and finals.”
Additionally, He added, “And I’m in the semifinals, and sometimes not playing your best and finding a way is more important than playing your best.”
“But she’s a Grand Slam champion, as well, multiple Grand Slam champion, she’s respected, but her opinion right now does not matter to me.”, 2018 ATP Tour finals champion concluded.
