Who would not be proud of their friendship with the twenty times Grand Slam Winner Rafael Nadal? Might be no one across the world for a reason of his on and off-court down to earth character. However, the Lisbon Open 2020 winner and countryman Jaume Munar revealed the unique advantages of being a friend of the King of Clay.
After winning a title at the Portugal ATP challenger event, the 23-years-old Spaniard spoke about his special relationship with the 13times Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal at the press conference on Sunday.
World No.112 Munar said while talking about his idol, “It’s a privilege to be a friend of Rafa Nadal. Since they were very young, they speak to me about Rafa, so I’m used to it. Today we are friends. He is not just a mentor but a friend. He’s someone I trust a lot and who helps me a lot.”
He continued, “I talked to him today before the final. He tried to tell me to be calm, follow my path, and continue to do my job. What we see in court is the result of a lot of work, and he knows how I work. I train at your gym, and my coach is your best friend.”
“Pedro Later Played Incredible Tennis”: Jaume Munar
Followed by a straight-set victory against host Pedro Sousa, Winner Munar confessed, “I started very well, but Pedro later played incredible tennis for three games.”
He added, “It is true that I missed a 5-2, 30-0 volley, but he was brilliant from that point on, and what made me the winner of that first set was the fact that I was already thinking about the possibility of him playing so well during some periods. Then in the second set, I played better.”
