“Feel Like I am Supported, It Is Great”: Iga Swiatek Cherishes Her Friendship With Naomi Osaka

Iga Swiatek is still in shock and could not believe that she has won the Grand Slam in Paris. However, with this win, she became the first Polish to win a Grand Slam tournament. Moreover, the teenager has the plan to win the title at the rest of three Grand Slams. Besides, she has a desire to win an Olympic medal.

On her way to winning, she also defeated two out of the world’s best ten players at this moment. Besides, the win was historic in various aspects. Moreover, Iga Swiatek also became the lowest-ranked women’s champion at Roland Garros.


Iga Swiatek, in her conversation with BBC Sports, said, ”Basically, I was in shock for the next three days’‘ following her unexpected win at the Roland Garros. In addition to this, talking about her emotions, she said, ‘‘I could not even tell you my emotions. This is because even I do not understand them.”

Adding to this, she talked about the atmosphere in Poland. She said, ”It is pretty crazy here. I think my life has completely changed. And I am trying to get used to this change. I left a different Poland than that I came back to. Right now, I am kind of popular here.”


Talking about her wellness and friendship with another sensation Naomi Osaka, Iga said she is doing well. However, she also mentioned that “I’m doing pretty well, but if I’m going to have any problems, then Naomi (Osaka) texted me that I can always ask her for advice or support. We had a quick chat on social media right after the final. I feel like I am supported, so it is great.”  

Speaking about the dream, the Polish star said, “I always wanted to win Grand Slams and Olympic medals. However, all of this seemed like a distant dream.”

But, now that she has already won one of the Grand Slams, Iga Swiatek believes that now the dream is closer than before. She added that while all of this is pretty overwhelming, “It is one of the things that I worked for.”
