“Federer Was Calming Me Down”- Belinda Bencic on Playing Alongside Roger in Mixed Double Event

Belinda Bencic and Federer

Roger Federer as we all know is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He is an inspiration for not only the male players but also the female WTA stars. But unfortunately, not all of them get to play across him and watch him maneuver the ball the way he does.

A lot of people trust the Swiss with the racket and look up to him as an idol. But Belinda Bencic’s trust and faith in the 39-year-old is unmatchable. Belinda has had the privilege of playing a mixed doubles match alongside the legend.

When asked about who would she choose as her mixed doubled partner, Belinda Bencic was sure about her answer. The 23-year-old without any hesitation took Federer’s name.

Well, I think definitely Roger Federer, if its mixed doubles,” Bencic said, with reference to the Italian Open.

“I Always Thought I Was Going to Be Super Nervous”- Belinda Bencic

She was also asked about her experience of her mixed doubles match with the former world number one. Bencic said she surprisingly was not as nervous as she had expected. Rather, she became more nervous when Roger saw her play in the singles.

Well, of course, it feels amazing. I always thought I was going to be super nervous. But I was more nervous when Roger was watching my singles match.” she explained.

“In the doubles, I really felt much support from him. He was calming me down and everything was amazing, I think.” Bencic added, explaining how Federer made things easy for her in the mixed doubles.

Bencic could or may not get a chance to play mixed doubles with the star again. They might pair up together for the Tokyo Olympics next year. But that will be possible only if Federer decides to play mixed doubles at the event. His decision about which of the men’s doubles and mixed doubles events he will play is still not final.
