Amidst huge anticipation, World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas will lock horns with former World No.1 Andy Murray in the opening encounter at US Open 2021. Ahead of the three-time Grand Slam champion clash, the 23-year-old from Athens said he would have to bring some good tennis from his side on the hard courts.

Tsitsipas will compete against 2012 US Open title winner Andy Murray for the first time in the ATP Tour. Their head-to-head series is 0-0.

“He’s someone that has been putting in a lot of work to get back and has been playing very good tennis to be standing where he’s at right now,” Tsitsipas said of his opponent, none other than Andy Murray.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has a win-loss record of 48-14 in 2021. On the flip side, Andy Murray won five out of the ten matches he played this year.

Greek further continued, “I think I’m going to go for it, try my chances against him. He’s someone that won’t give up. I’ll have to bring some good tennis from my side.”

Most recently, Tsitsipas fell to Alexander Zverev in the three sets at the Western and Southern Open 2021 semifinal. On the other hand, Andy Murray lost his second-round match in straight sets to American Frances Tiafoe at the Winston-Salem Open 2021.
