When asked about the Italian semi-final clash, the Serbian said,” Hammer of tennis. Next to del Potro, probably the hardest hitter of serve and forehand. He’s(Berrettini) got the lethal-serve-plus-one game.”Embed from Getty Images
Matteo Berrettini has had a wonderful season in 2021. He has a win-loss record of 37-8 and won titles at Belgrade Open and Queen’s Club Open. Most notably, the 25-year-old reached his maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, where he fell to Novak Djokovic in four sets (7-6, 4-6, 4-6, 3-6).
Serb further added, “He’s already established as a top player. Without a doubt, he played a couple of, I think, semi-finals here a couple of years ago, finals in Wimbledon. That was a tough four-setter.”
“Hopefully The Result Will Be The Same As The Previous Two”: Djokovic on Facing Berrettini
World No.1 and World No.8 have faced each other three times so far. Djokovic leads Berrettini 3-0 in their head-to-head series. Recently, Serbian toppled Italian at the 2021 French Open quarterfinal and Wimbledon final.
In addition, Matteo Berrettini is known for his aggressive all-court play and his forehand and vicious serves that can reach up to 235 km/h.
“Look, if he serves well, which is his biggest weapon, he’s tough. He’s tough on any surface to play against. I’ve had some really close matches with him in the French Open and Wimbledon recently,” the 20-time Grand Slam Champion added.
However, Djokovic is optimistic and looking forward to the same result as the last two encounters against Berrettini. “We’re going to play the third Grand Slam in a row against each other. Hopefully, the result will be the same as the previous two,” a 34-year-old from Belgrade confessed.
