“Andy Won Everything That You Can Win In Tennis”: Stan Wawrinka Has All Praise For Murray

Stan Wawrinka advanced to the second round at the French Open 2020. Swiss overcame Andy Murray during the opening round match on Sunday. While the 2015 Champion has taken an hour and 37 minutes to conquer the Briton, besides, he has massive praise for his rival as well.  

The entire tennis world anticipated a big match between old rivals, but it ended with just three sets(6-1, 6-3, 6-2) at Roland Garros amidst the cold weather.

However, Murray still leads Wawrinka in head to head(21-9). We hope they once again will play as the 2017 Semifinals, where the match concluded 4 hours and 34 minutes and five sets 6-7(6) 6-3 5-7 7-6(3) 6-1.

After the match, Winner Stan Wawrinka has praised his first-round opponent Andy Murray at the press conference.

He said, “Andy won everything that you can win in tennis. He was No. 1. He had an amazing career. Nobody expected him to come back on tour. He’s getting back. He’s a great champion. It’s always going to be special to play against him.”

Many players have raised concerns over this year’s French Open conditions. Murray also preferred leggings to keep himself warm while playing under the Philippe Chatrier roof. At the same time, Wawrinka played with standard his match kits. Swiss also admitted that the conditions would not bother his play. 


Wawrinka said, “For sure it’s tough conditions here—heavy, slow, cold, completely different than normal at that time of the year. But again, I think I’m playing well.”

“Happy [that in] those conditions, I can still play heavy with my game from both sides. So I use those tough conditions, heavy conditions, slow conditions to play powerful tennis still.”, the world number seventeen concluded.
